For 65 years, Peace Corps Volunteers and staff have served our nation. We have shared skills and taken part in transformative cultural exchange that has helped build strong relationships between the U.S. and 144 countries worldwide
This year, Congress can honor the nearly 250,000 volunteers who have served since 1961. RPCV Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) and Delegate Amata Radewagen (R-American Samoa) have introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives (H.Con.Res.119, “Honoring the 65th Anniversary of the Peace Corps”). Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) have introduced a concurrent resolution in the Senate (S.Res.872). Together, the concurrent resolutions:
- Celebrate the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Peace Corps;
- Honor the nearly 250,000 individuals who have served as Peace Corps volunteers for their dedication to peace, friendship, and community-driven development; and
- Commend the Peace Corps’ enduring mission to put purpose, passion, and skills to work for America and the world.
We are calling on all Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, staff, colleagues, friends, family, and community members to write letters and call your Representatives and Senators now to sign on to the concurrent resolutions in the House and Senate. With enough support, the resolutions could be introduced on the House and Senate floors – a fitting way to celebrate 65 years of Peace Corps service.
Visit the National Peace Corps Association’s Action Center to contact your legislators. Be sure to send letters to both your Representatives and Senators (they are two separate actions in the Action Center).
